AV1 is a codec developed by the Alliance For Open Media, a join efforts of ton of different technology again. AV1 main benefits is that unlike other codec, it is royalty-free. AV1 is also extremely flexible and can be set to prioritize quality, speed, or a balance. If compared by the equivalent bitrate, AV1 provides better visual quality than other platforms like, HEVC, H.264, AV1 can provide equivalent results in 30% lower bitrate compare to HEVC and AVC.
